Loco no.103

Highland Railway Locomotive no. 103 T.1966.15.d

“All the controls in the cab would be red hot so you didn't touch them except with a spanner.”

James Devaney, former locomotive fireman

Comment by Ian Teaz

The Jones Goods was the first to have the 4-6-0 wheel arrangement in the British Isles. And it was the most powerful engine when it was built.

Did you ever want to be a train driver? Maybe you achieved your goal?

Eyewitness by James Devaney

I fired the 103 on about 6 or 7 different occasions on trips, and about 6 or 7 occasions on test runs, with different drivers. [She] was a good, hardworking locomotive to work on. She was a very forgiving locomotive. You could make mistakes, and she'd cover them up for you.
