Building locomotives was a major industry in Glasgow during the Twentieth Century. Massive cranes loading engines onto ships were a familiar sight at the docks. Around two thirds of locos built in Glasgow were exported around the world.
But not all the locomotives were shipped abroad. Many remained here carrying goods and passengers to destinations around mainland Britain. Some routes became particularly well known. The spectacular West Highland line is still very popular with tourists.
If you remember the locos of Scotland, or seeing those destined for export, then share your memories here.
